The purpose of this church is to operate as a body of New Testament believers, guided by the principles outlined in the Word of God. Our mission is to glorify God through worship that honors Him, evangelism that leads the lost in Columbus, Ohio, and around the world to Him, and discipleship that strengthens believers in their relationship with God.
Immanuel Baptist Church is first and foremost about people, not simply buildings and programs. It is our desire as a church family to love the Savior and be ambassadors of His love and truth to others. We are a local community of believers who desire to know, love and serve the Lord.
At Immanuel Baptist Church, faith is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that a deep, personal relationship with God transforms lives and communities. Our mission is to nurture and strengthen this faith through worship, engaging fellowship, and biblical teaching. Together, we seek to grow in our understanding of God’s Word and to live out our faith in practical ways, reflecting His love and grace to those around us. To see What we Believe, click here.
The first meeting of Immanuel Baptist Church took place on Mother’s Day, May 14, 1933, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Siler. Initially, the group was known as the Hilltop Baptist Mission, but it was officially organized as Immanuel Baptist Church on July 12, 1933, with 62 charter members. John Vincent, a charter member, became Immanuel’s first pastor, serving from October 4, 1933, until 1938—first on a part-time basis and later full-time. In January 1939, the church voted to join the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches. Initially, the church gathered at John Burroughs School at the corner of Sullivant and Richardson Avenues. On October 1, 1933, Immanuel relocated to a renovated store room at 2092 Sullivant Avenue. In September 1939, the congregation moved to its new church building at 286 Belvidere Avenue.
After this building was sold in 1958, the church met at Westgate Elementary School for eight months before transitioning to the basement of its partially completed building at 3417 Palmetto Street. The current auditorium was completed and dedicated in March 1959, followed by the dedication of the three-story educational building on May 10, 1964.
In September 2010, Pastor Brad Rickard was called to serve as Senior Pastor until February 2024. In June 2024, Pastor Eric Cuenin was appointed as the interim pastor. The church continues to maintain fellowship with the Ohio Association of Regular Baptist Churches (OARBC).
